2.  Sunday School at Oak Pointe is considered one of our Sunday School classes.

Like all of our classes at First Baptist, Sunday School at Oak Pointe begins at 9:30 a.m. each Sunday.  Volunteers should arrive at Oak Pointe no later than 9:15 a.m. in order to greet residents.  Class meets for about an hour.  Volunteers are encouraged to remain after class and fellowship with the residents.

Class meets in the Chapel at Oak Pointe, which is located to the left after entering the building’s main entrance.  There are 20 chairs and a teaching podium.  The Chapel is oriented width-wise, giving Bible study leaders a nearer presence to the residents.  A sound system in not provided, so leaders will need to speak loudly.

Be sure to report a headcount of attendance for our record-keeping purposes, including yourself and any assistants.

3.  In addition to the Bible, the class uses printed curriculum.

Volunteer Bible study leaders may use any modern translation of the Bible.  However, curriculum is provided using King James Version Scripture references.

Oak Pointe residents who need a Bible will be provided one at no charge.  Volunteers should notify the office of Bible needs.  Unless otherwise noted, large print King James Version Bibles will be provided.

Volunteer Bible study leaders are encouraged to follow the weekly Bible study plan provided in the quarterly Explore the Bible curriculum.  This way, each volunteer knows what has been previously taught and what is coming up.  Curriculum is provided by the church.  Oak Pointe residents are welcome to have a copy of the material (we order large print for everyone).  The Bible study plan is that which is printed in the table of contents.  Exceptions will be made for special events.

Bible study is to be kept non-denominational in nature, yet following what we believe about Holy Scripture (from The Baptist Faith & Message):

The Holy Bible was written by men divinely inspired and is God’s revelation of Himself to man.  It is a perfect treasure of divine instruction.  It has God for its author, salvation for its end, and truth, without any mixture of error, for its matter.  Therefore, all Scripture is totally true and trustworthy.  It reveals the principles by which God judges us, and therefore is, and will remain to the end of the world, the true center of Christian union, and the supreme standard by which all human conduct, creeds, and religious opinions should be tried.  All Scripture is a testimony to Christ, who is Himself the focus of divine revelation.

Exodus 24:4; Deuteronomy 4:1-2; 17:19; Joshua 8:34; Psalms 19:7-10; 119:11,89,105,140; Isaiah 34:16; 40:8; Jeremiah 15:16; 36; Matthew 5:17-18; 22:29; Luke 21:33; 24:44-46; John 5:39; 16:13-15; 17:17; Acts 2:16ff.; 17:11; Romans 15:4; 16:25-26; 2 Timothy 3:15-17; Hebrews 1:1-2; 4:12; 1 Peter 1:25; 2 Peter 1:19-21.

4.  We are grateful for the volunteers from First Baptist who lead the Oak Pointe residents in this weekly Bible study.  At times, we’ll also have various age groups from First Baptist leading fellowship and Bible study.  If you would like to help or would like more information about Oak Pointe Sunday School, contact First Baptist.
