The Youth Ministry at Kearney First Baptist Church includes all 6th – 12th grade students. During the summer months (after school is dismissed for the year), the Youth Ministry looks a little different. Be sure to contact the church for details.
In the following video, Matt Scott, Minister of Students, First Baptist Church, Oneonta, AL, speaks about leading teenagers on a spiritual journey. After the video, scroll down for more Youth Sunday School Teacher orientation.
Location of Youth classes
At Kearney First Baptist Church, all Youth Sunday School classes are located on the second floor of the Christian Activity Center (CAC).
What happens on Sunday morning?
An opening session for all teenagers and their teachers begins at 9:30 a.m. on the main floor of the CAC. During this time, the church’s youth pastor speaks to the the students. This gives the youth pastor time to connect with teens in the Sunday School hour. YOUTH TEACHERS should attend the opening session with their students (but you do not need to sit together as a class!).
Following the opening session, which lasts about 10 minutes, teens are dismissed to Sunday School. As a youth teacher, be sure your students don’t wander away!
At the beginning of your class, record attendance on the roll usually located in a holder on the outside of your door. Return it there as soon as possible. It will be collected during the first half of the Sunday School hour!
One LARGE class!
A few times a year, we combine all Youth classes for one big class on the main floor. The students will hear from a guest speaker or one of the pastors. These dates are announced ahead of time, usually in the Weekly Teachers Memo.
We strongly encourage all Youth teachers to use curriculum chosen by the church’s ministry leaders. The associate pastor for Youth, or the associate pastor for Education, will discuss this with you.
We maintain a list of qualified members who gladly substitute teach for Youth Sunday School teachers. Simply contact the office and we will assist you in making contact.
