August 1, 2020 – July 31, 2021
Believing that the privilege of guiding others in their discovery and application of Scripture is worthy of my best, I covenant the following with my church family at Kearney First Baptist Church:
For myself: To prioritize my personal discipleship in keeping with the principles of the Bible; to seek the Holy Spirit’s help as I develop and use my skills and giftedness;
And, to maintain a Christ-like lifestyle by abstaining from alcohol use, gambling, gluttony, indecent appearance, inappropriate social media, recreational drug use, sexual immorality, unwholesome speech, and other vices and works of the flesh. (Rom. 12:1; I Cor. 6:19-20; Eph. 4:1-3; 5:8; I Tim. 2:8-10; II Tim. 2:15-16, 23-26; Ja. 1:22)
For my class or small group: To prepare theologically and doctrinally sound lessons using The Bible as the sole authority in the discovery and application of the truth of Holy Scripture and The Baptist Faith & Message (2000) as a guide for doctrinal accountability; to share the Gospel with the unsaved as I equip the saved in spiritual disciplines;
And, to build community in my class or small group by helping members, visitors, and prospects to know one another and support each other in prayer, fellowship, and participation in the ministries of the church; and to equip participants for leadership opportunities within the church. (Ps. 119:16; Prov. 11:14; Acts 2:46; I Cor. 4:1-2, 16-17; 12:12; Gal. 6:2, 6; Phil. 2:3-4)
For my church… To recognize, under the headship of Jesus Christ, the Biblical authority of the local body of believers – the church – and her pastors and leaders in their decisions, direction, and calling of leadership; to comply with their decisions regarding benevolence, curriculum, educational resources, evangelism, family values, gender orientation, marriage, missions, sanctity of life, social order, and other moral, ethical, and Biblical disciplines and values.
And, to support the ministries of my church through prayer, outreach, and financial giving; to participate in worship, fellowship, and evangelism and mission opportunities; to joyfully assist in starting new classes or small groups as needed; and to uplift the Kingdom’s work through the church and her mission. (Mal. 3:10; Mat.10:6-8; 28:19; I Thes. 5:17; II Tim. 2:15; Heb. 10:25; 13:17)
I will do my best to fulfill this covenant.
